| Mr Brigo '"I believe this is the result of Burnham's intention to hit the affluent South East of the country and give greater assistance to 'the North'." It was announced in December 2025 so you can't blame him.' OK I take the point that it is Labour policy and not Burnham's own. After all he was only elected to Parliament three months ago. 'The process of local council inspectors coming into your house and "having a nose" is pretty common across Europe apparently - I guess if people there have gotten used to it then we will as well?' Just because it happened under Hitler in Germany and Mussolini in Italy does not mean it is acceptable in the UK. We have a more established and stable understanding and practice of civil liberties than do these European countries. We tend to start with a premise - "my house is my castle". This saying traces back to the English legal principle that "an Englishman's home is his castle", first articulated in the 16th and 17th centuries. Sir Edward Coke, a prominent English jurist, formalized this idea in his work The Institutes of the Laws of England (1628), stating, "For a man's house is his castle", highlighting that a home is a person's safest refuge and a place where they have legal protections against intrusion This principle became foundational in English common law and influenced the development of the castle doctrine, which allows individuals to defend their homes from intruders with reasonable force'. Sounds fine to me. Do you with your European ancestry disagree ? |
