| Ms Hammond Dolly Parton was the musical voice of and for the true working class, and herself always part of it however much money she rightly made. And a great example of what an individual can achieve from a lowly start in 'the land of the free'. She also wrote the best (only ?) anthem for feminism "9 to 5" and never blamed 'the patriarchy'. Eat your heart out Zoe Williams and other Guardian columnists and readers. I hope every UK school child who received a book funded by her is told to bring it in and read on the first day of next term. BTW my favourite track on the CD I have of her greatest hits is "Islands in the Stream", a duet with Kenny Rogers. Gorgeous schmaltz ! |
