| This happened yesterday to a friend, but it is not a unique experience. It is an occurrence that has been repeated for the past 18+ months here in London: As a Jewish family, with young children, we faced racial abuse going into central London today. It was in public and no one intervened, in fact they joined in. We didn't realise that our route into a central London venue popular with children would take us into the path of people going into the marches. This isn't free speech, it's racial hatred. I have reported it to the police, which is why I am being vague about the exact location in London. The police acknowledged we weren't safe as a Jewish family in this location and drove us on. If it's well known that Jews aren't safe in central London during the marches then they shouldn't be allowed. The 'people' said things including 'death to Jews' and 'the only good Jew is a dead Jew'. My children are under 10 and were in tears. They surrounded us and tried to prevent us from escaping. If there were well known no go zones for any other racial group then it would be taken seriously I'm sure. Jews unfortunately don't count. I'm shocked that no one helped when my children were visibly distressed: it was on the tube with crowds around who joined in and says something very worrying about our society. My daughter asked me why she isn't welcome in London when she is from here. She was crying while this happened. |
