| I think they are brilliant too. We've been doing it for over 20 - yes, that is twenty years! The Wandsworth info says use compostable bags - NOT any other plastic bags - we are trying to reduce plastic in the environment - and shows the seedling logo and the code EN 14323. The Anaerobic Digestion facility that the food waste is being sent to will have a say in what they can deal with and the operatives collecting will have been given directions on what they can take (and please do take the the operatives and their job into consideration)! I put my house number on my outdooe food waste bin because initially I thought everyone would be careful with their bins but then found I'd been left with the one nobody else wanted which I then had to soak for over a week to get clean because somebody was not using anything to at all to line the bin with and hadn't ever rinsed it out when just a sheet of newspaper helps the contents to slide out. (We weren't initially issued with liners and 20 years ago there was a lot more newspaper about!) We've actually now reduced our food waste and no longer make more than the amount that the small caddy takes each week. (We now buy small loaves of bread or freeze half a large loaf to make it last longer - that was our biggest change.) |
