Sue. I don't think it's disingenuous to show there is no mass migration to the UK, which was my understanding your post. If one turns up as an emergency at hospital I believe one will get treatment. If it's not an emergency my understanding is you won't. GPs now check one's validity for NHS care and you need a GP to refer your to hospital for non emergency treatment. If you're a tourist from abroad you'd need to go to a doctor or clinic on a private basis (a friend from the US who was recently Inthe UK had to do that). I guess if you've got a work visa to be in the UK one would need to have health insurance fom your employer, but I'm not up to speed on that. If you're an immigrant who has come here legitimately you can usually claim benefits if you've no resources, and if you've come through an unofficial then I guess you'd have no financial resources I guess wherever you're detained would make health provision, but I don't thing it's time hat easy to get treatment if you're not a UK resident. Of course, whatever one's status it's in the good of public health to treat anyone with an infectious disease irrespective of whether hey can pay or not! |
