The tree thing seems like a good initiative although I do not see the national papers holding the government to account regarding being behind their planting programme.

Also if you look at the number of pages the Guardian has reported on concerning the rain forests and compare that to the small coverage of the UK's own deforestation and replanting - it really tells you the Guardian isn't a campaigning paper but more pro-establishment with a dash of liberalism. I'm not saying UK or Brazil is right - far from it but surely it can influence our own government more than Brazil etc?? I guess the BBC could fall into that category too..

Matt - I'm glad you posted those links because I didn't see anything on the web when I looked a few months ago. I had a quick look at the donors from non individuals which seem quite large. Do XR check if they have ethical investments etc? I think one that I looked at quickly this morning was just a holding company. I assumed it was small investments but that doesn't seem to be the case. Sadly most political parties (even churches) if not all have been tripped up with large donations so perhaps my expectation of XR may be unfair!
