You may be interested to note that the Castle pub bombed on 19th April 1941 had been open only two years, having replaced the 18th century Castle (a 17th century building) demolished for road-widening in 1938. In order to keep the licence, the Castle operated in a shed which functioned as a pub for much of the period until the last Castle was opened in 1959. That was demolished in 2003. |
