They can't ask for immunity from prosecution. What they've asked for is a guarantee that the evidence they give in the enquiry will not be used in subsequent criminal prosecutions. Without that they can, if they want, refuse to answer questions that might be self incriminating. I'm not saying that's right, it's just the position (not dissimilar to the US 5th amendment, but that applies in courts as well). |
