| You seem to have got confused about this. The effect of insisting no deal be left "on the table" was to galvanise an alliance of MPs from all parties into forcing through legislation which took it firmly "off the table again". No effect on the negotiation with the EU whatsoever. Johnson has now "negotiated" the same Withdrawal Agreement deal which the EU offered to May over 18 months ago and which the DUP (and others) blocked at the time. Since Johnson no longer has a parliamentary majority, he has no qualms about throwing the DUP under a bus - which Theresa May was loath to do lest she lose hers. The only significant difference is a change in emphasis in the accompanying Political Declaration, with consequential greater friction to inter-country trade and downward revisions to UK GDP projections. Are you basing your views on the text of the deal, just published, or on some obscure religious conviction? If the former, which paragraph do you think displays the Johnson's negotiating prowess to best effect? |
