New York Times and Washington Post both now have (separately sourced) stories that some of Mueller's staff say that his report was more damaging - in respect to Obstruction of Justice - than the US Attorney General's summary suggests. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/03/us/politics/william-barr-mueller-report.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/limited-information-barr-has-shared-about-russia-investigation-frustrated-some-on-muellers-team/2019/04/03/c98e8a02-567a-11e9-814f-e2f46684196e_story.html?utm_term=.b040a7f9e548 Striking, given that the Mueller investigation was very, very quiet throughout its operation, with no leaks. Apparently Mueller had specifically prepared some sections that could be immediately released with no redactions - but Barr did not then release them. In any case, I always felt it unlikely that the Mueller report would provide a clear case on collusion. Much more likely in my view that members of the Trump family (probably including the President himself) will eventually face prosecution on some other matter. He's a grifter, with a long history of dubious business practices. These are the investigations that are still underway: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/03/after-mueller-ongoing-investigations-trump/585376/ |
