Starling and Revolut etc have written their software from scratch and implemented it as a phone-app only service. I'm not sure how many people would be as comfortable with this as I am - I now just think of money as numbers being moved around, and rarely bother to carry cash any more. Everything I have used Starling for has been quick and problem-free. When I transfer money into the account it appears instantly. It works fine as a MasterCard debit in the UK and in Germany (I haven't used it elsewhere yet, but soon will try France). Early on with Metro Bank I found their card didn't work in Belgian automated petrol stations, which was a pain, but they explained it as being due to the fact that the machines would have to be updated and different companies were more or less proactive (they work now) I look forward to getting a Sterling euro account, once they roll out availability to all customers Revolut allows you to hold up to 23 different currencies in your account, but they have a sting in the tail - they limit you to £200 free cashpoint withdrawal per month . However, I now find I don't use cash much, so maybe that doesn't matter so much? |
